About
For the last 31 years, Eastside Café has proudly served the Austin community, providing quality farm-to-table classics and garnering special relationships with each patron. Now, under current representation, the café has announced it will officially close its doors on Jan. 31, 2019 as founder Elaine Martin passes the torch to critically acclaimed restaurateur, entrepreneur and Suerte owner, Sam Hellman-Mass.
“Serving the East Austin community is something that is incredibly close to my heart,” Martin said. “As I close the doors of Eastside Cafe, I’m inspired by all the memories made, food served and community encouraged in this house, and I’m excited to see the way Sam makes the space his own.”
Eastside Cafe would like to recognize its talented loyal staff and gracious community and wishes to continue enjoying everyone’s company through this time.
Eastside Cafe opened in 1988 as one of the first restaurants on Manor Road, now a bustling restaurant row with more than a dozen local cafes, taco joints, coffee shops, and pubs. Eastside was also a pioneer in the urban farming movement, using herbs and vegetables from the garden on its property. Named one of Austin’s 10 Best Restaurants by USA Today Travel, Eastside Cafe has always been beloved by Austinites and visitors alike.
Eastside Cafe serves brunch, lunch, and dinner with rotating chef’s specials complementing the menu. Nearly everything at Eastside Cafe is made from scratch, including the restaurant’s famous feta salad dressing, jalapeno cornbread muffins, seasonal soups, and daily specials. Many items are vegetarian-friendly, and there is also a gluten-free menu.
Just next door on the property is Elaine’s, named for Eastside’s co-founder and owner Elaine Martin. Elaine’s is famous for its delicious homemade pies, pulled pork sandwiches and tacos, and frozen lemonade. Elaine’s also serves appetizers including shrimp ceviche and queso, beer, wine, and assorted soups and salads.
